“Better Together” — Champagne’s move toward Corporate Social Responsibility

The Champagne industry has entered a decisive stage in meeting its commitment to an ambitious but structured approach to sustainable development. For some years now, Champagne Growers and Houses have spared no effort to implement Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at every level, pulling together in pursuit of a multidisciplinary vision of their industry that embraces all stakeholders.

Following two years of collaborative working, the Champagne profession is now united in support of a comprehensive CSR strategy covering every dimension of their industry — economic, environmental and societal.

This first impact report is based an in-depth materiality assessment identifying four main areas for action:

* Collective action: join forces to preserve our common good
* Action for Champagne wine: perpetuate the expertise behind our exceptional wines
* Action for the Champagne region: work together to promote our production area
* Action for the world: help tackle the challenges facing society today

Within these four areas, priority will be given to twelve measurable objectives that will guide the sector’s future endeavors, by launching new projects or reinforcing those already underway, such as sustainable viticulture, collective commitment, appellation protection and value sharing.

This impact report is the fruit of a collective commitment, marking a major step forward on the difficult road to transparency in pursuit of a clearly defined goal: ensuring excellence and sustainability from vine to wine.
