In World War I, the Champagne House cellars were repurposed as shelters for local civilians and military personnel. Makeshift schools, hospitals, chapels and sleeping quarters were set up – even the Reims City Council moved its headquarters there. The House of Deutz was established in 1838 by two young entrepreneurs from Aix-la-Chapelle, Pierre-Hubert Geldermann and William Deutz. The adventure continues nearly two centuries later, with “Love” as the House’s watchword.
