Champagne Houses are represented by the
Union des Maisons de Champagne (UMC) and Champagne Growers are represented by the Syndicat Général des Vignerons (SGV). The two groups confer with one another to promote the co-management of the Champagne Appellation, within the framework of the CIVC (Comité Champagne) and under the oversight of the regional prefect. At the social level, two special commissions under the respective auspices of the UMC and the SGV negotiate the terms and conditions of employment for salaried staff: the "Commission Tripartite" for the UMC and the "Commission Mixte Paritaire" (mixed/joint commission) for the Champagne Growers.
The Union des Maisons de Champagne (UMC) and the Syndicat Général des Vignerons (SGV) participate, at national and European level alike, in the various forums that represent their professional interests. The UMC plays a particularly active role in the proceedings of French professional and state bodies, impressing upon Government and the European Commission the importance of taking into account the views of UMC members in all regulatory matters governing their business activities.
